Sweet!
This is my first official review and giveaway on my blog. I will be randomly selecting a winner from my comments, so be sure to leave one
I got my official copy of Harry Connick, Jr.’s new album YOUR SONGS in the mail the other day. (Also be sure to check out his Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/harryconnickjr) It was released on September 22, 2009. I love Harry Connick, Jr.! His amazing performance in CopyCat as the psycho serial killer who likes Sigourney Weaver’s panties. Love it. He was also very funny in PS I Love You (I can’t think of anyone that would get me laughing in a movie with his response to Hilary Swank’s character saying her husband just died of a brain tumor.) And we can’t forget all his music! I am totally a Happy Elf right now!
So, on my way to work the other morning, I took the disc out of it’s shiny new case and slid it into my CD player and let his smooth, sexy voice take over. And I couldn’t help but keep staring at the CD cover, those blue eyes, those lips…yummy!
Here is the track listing from the CD:
Album Tracklisting (Originally performed by):
All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)
(They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)
Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening
And I Love You So (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)
I’m not gonna lie, there are some songs on here that I did not like his rendition of, namely, Just the Way You Are, Can’t Help Falling In Love With You and First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (translation The Last Time I Ever Listen To This Song.) NOTE: I would add Your Song to this list, but in all fairness, I don’t like Elton John’s version of it either, so it’s got nothing to do with Harry!
However, I did enjoy the majority of the songs on this CD. All the Way is definitely a great interpretation of Frank’s version. In fact, he sounded alot like Frank Sinatra, which is definitely not a bad thing.
I also enjoyed They Long to Be (Close To You). I didn’t think I could get past the fact that it wasn’t sung by the late, great Karen Carpenter (c’mon, you know, the anorexic who played the drums in her brother’s band. Amazing voice, died way too young. What a waste of talent.) But Harry did an exceptional version of this song.
Besame Mucho was another one of my favorites. Even though during the refrain all I could think of was Ursula’s chant from the Little Mermaid where she took Ariel’s voice. Listen to it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. But it was definitely a very sexy song with an upbeat little tune.
And he does my absolute.favorite.song.of.all.time, The Way You Look Tonight.
I absolutely.frickin.love.this.song. If, one day, by some miracle of nature or entrapment, I get married, I would totally use this as my wedding song. Maybe not as fast as the version is on this album, but he has done this song before and it makes me swoon every time
All in all I would have to say it was a very enjoyable CD. I would definitely flip this on when I’m home, enjoying a glass of cab while sitting in front of my fireplace (if I had one) or throwing a dinner party. Great background music.
So, be sure to leave a comment to be entered in my giveaway of Harry Connick, Jr.’s YOUR SONGS. Tell me about your favorite song, a memory you have when you hear a certain song, or just comment on how hawt Harry Connick, Jr is, whateves, it’s all good!

I love Harry! Not only is he easy on the eyes, his music has an innate sensitivity to it. You should see Harry when he’s in New Orleans. He really comes alive when he’s there. Hope this CD is a big success for him.
Talk about a triple threat – this guy’s talent is endless – he can sing, act, play the piano and make me swoon! I’m glad to hear that the album is getting good reviews. I am looking forward to being able to hear it soon myself!!
Triple-threat….I’m digging that!
I totally appreciate your kind of music critique! You speak my language -Frank, Ariel, Copycat – all good things I can wrap my head around. I also LOVE me some Harry Connick. His voice is like butta! I really like the ragtime sound that he has on one of his earlier albums but I’m sure he can sing the hell out of the oldies but goodies too.
His voice is like butta! I can’t believe you didn’t know that was him in CopyCat! lol!
Well, unlike what another poster said, harry does not make me swoon, but I do enjoy his music!
So, the blue eyes don’t do it for you? No worries, his music is pretty awesome!
